Going Swimming « Thread Started on Sept 10, 2009, 8:44am »
Callie didn't know how to swim. She didn't really admit that to anyone till she did to Mike over the summer. That was when he decided that he was going to teach her. Mike had decided that they'd start having weekly sessions till she could swim like a pro. Callie sat on the edge of the pool and let her feet dangle in and touch the water. She was waiting on Mike to arrive. She'd looked down to her watch jsut as the door burst open. She flushed a bit as she looked to him and went to move, but then decided against it. She looked to the pool that started at four feet and then went deeper. She gulped a bit as she looked back up to Mike and spoke, "Not going to let me drown, are you?"
Mike had thought about dipping into her mind to reveal why she was afraid of learning to swim, but he'd promised he wouldn't dip into her mind anymore. As he joined her at the pool he laughed. "Course not silly." He teased.
Callie got up and moved to the stairs and then she stepped into the pool as she smiled and spoke, "I didn't think you would." She nervously continued to step in. Once she was into the four deep part she was fine cause she could touch and her head was above the water. She looked to him and then she held out her hand as she spoke, "Come here, I want you to see something." She bit her lip nervously and held out a hand waiting for him to take it. Once he did she opened her mind completely to him. She relived the memory of ehr as a six year old girl. She was helping her dad and mom spread hay over the grass seed they had jsut laid. She was moving aorund and stepped in a ant hill. Fire ants began to crawl up her legs and she jsut stood there screaming and yelling. her dad picked her up and threw her into the pool, forgetting she couldn't swim, and there Callie was drowing and sturggling. Her father did eventually jump in and save her though. Calllie broke the memory then looked to him and blinked a few times and tried to thinkof what to say.

Mike came to her and took her hand and saw the memory. He smiled gently at her and gave her hand a squeeze. "Most fears, like yours, have their roots in a lack of control. I sort of figured it was something like being thrown into a body of water unprepared. But this time Callie, you're prepared, and you and only you are the one who'll decide when to go any further than this. Ok? Right now we're just going to learn to relax in the water so we're sticking to the shallow end ok. Relax. Float. Splash. Have fun." He said with a grin.

Callie laughed a bit when he told her that this time she did have total control. She looked to him and then bit her lip. She stepped in and then smiled as she felt herself getting wet. She gulped a bit as she spoke, "I don't know how to float. We are really starting at step one here, Mike." She grinned a bit and then took his hand and pulled him in. She splashed him like a two year old would splash in a tub and girnned like a mad man as she tried to get away from his returning splashes.
